Magic Spelling: a spelling technique that has given hope to thousands of children who have been told they may have dyslexia

MAGIC SPELLING is built on a strategy researched by Robert Dilts, one of the founders of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a process developed in the 1970’s at the University of California at Santa Barbara). Check out anlp.org for more information on NLP.

He found a group of naturally good spellers and asked detailed questions about what was happening internally when they spelled well. He noticed that they all seemed to have the same internal experience. He then asked the same question to students who could not spell well and found they were having very different internal experiences.  Once he taught them the processes naturally good spellers used, he found they too became good spellers.

I have been teaching this amazing, even magical, system for many years with much success. It is not well known in the south of England as it was mainly developed and tested in the North of England at Liverpool John Moores University. Consequently, not many teachers in London know this process.

Phonetic spelling is the way children are initially taught to read and write. Hweevor if lrnaenig to raed and slepl dpdeeend on sundniog out wrdos, how are you albe to raed this snteecne?

At this difficult time of Covid 19 many children are having their education disrupted. Now is a good time for you to take an opportunity to help your child with their spelling difficulties.

All you need is to have 4 sessions on Zoom, over a period of one month – one hour with a parent present and three shorter sessions. It is essential for your child to practise with you for 10 minutes every day during the month in order to develop and integrate the new Magic Spelling technique.

You will find the following will improve:

  • Spelling
  • Reading speed
  • Reading accuracy
  • Writing skills
  • Comprehension
  • Self-confidence

The majority of students do eventually learn to spell from learning phonics but there are a significant number of children who have tried to learn to spell this way and have failed. Many of them are very intelligent but are often labelled as lazy, careless or dyslexic. They often feel failures and suffer from low self-esteem. Other subjects become more difficult without the ability to read and write accurately. This can stay with them all their lives and affect their future careers.

I will teach your child how to spell well using visual rather than auditory clues and they will have fun whilst they are learning.

The earlier the intervention the better, as this will stop bad habits being reinforced. So whilst we are at home with our children why not take this opportunity to help them so that when they finally go back to school, they will go with new confidence in their ability to spell well.
